How to Disable “Low Disk Space Warning” in Windows

Today I red this in one of the Lockergnome’s Windows Fanatics articles. Since this was annoying me for like 2-3 years (actually, since the very first release of Windows XP), I decided to make this copy in my blog, for mine (and anyone else’s) future reference.

> Click Start and click Run. Type in regedit and click OK. The Registry editor will start.
> Locate the following registry key:
>
> HKEY\_CURRENT\_USER \\ Software \\ Microsoft \\ Windows \\ CurrentVersion \\ Policies \\ Explorer
>
> From the File menu, point to New, and click DWORD Value.
> Type in NoLowDiskSpaceChecks and press Enter.
> Double click the new value. Enter 1 and click OK.

  1. Especially useful on Windows 2003 Servers which have a separate (FAT32) partition for swapping. Unfortunately Windows insist on having a drive letter for the partition to be designed as swap drive and this drive usually gets 100% used (by design!:-))

    Furthermore, a simple tweak would be to place the value in HKLM for all users to benefit from it. Probably a copy/paste .reg file would be appreciated by your blog readers too. Here you have it:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer]
    "NoLowDiskSpaceChecks"=dword:00000001

    cheers,

    p.s. now, can this blog parse bbcodes i’m wondering?!
