I know this is a very old post but I figured out how to make this work and thought I would pass it along for anyone else who comes across your blog post. I found the following post (http://www.cmoullas.net/windows-backup-error-0x8078002a-2-5tb-3tb-wd-drives/) which again explains the issue of 512/4096 but the author was able to get a solution from Western Digitial using there formater tool and selecting the factory default setting, also you must be able to except that the drive will not work with windows xp when complete. Also you can obtain the WD Quick Formatter tool from (http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3868/~/using-wd-quick-formatter-to-format-external-drives-%28windows-7,-vista,-xp%29-or). An important point about the tool, as of v1.2 there is no “Factory Default” setting, there is “XP compatible” and “Most Compatible (Vista or later required)”, you will want to use the Vista or later option.

In reply to Милен Заков. Виж последната картинка от поста. Така изглеждат всички линукс базирани "решения" в сравнение с Windows Home Server 2011. Ако имаше толкова читаво, бързо и лесно решение под Линукс, може би щях да се навия да го пробвам. Но да започна от нулата с Ubuntu Server, не, нямам време и желание да си губя времето.
